GM announced Tuesday that its top U.S. sales executive, Mark LaNeve would be stepping down in the coming weeks. About eight hours later came news that replacing LaNeve would be Susan Docherty, who was HUMMER’s General Manager during the launch of the H3.

LaNeve has accepted a position outside the automotive industry, but exactly where hasn’t been made public. In the few times we met LaNeve, he was always extremely candid and open – a rarity (aside from Bob Lutz) for a top executive.

Docherty was most recently the General Manager of Buick, Pontiac, and GMC and also spent time as the regional general manager of GM’s Western Region, where she oversaw sales, service, marketing, distribution, parts and marketing for 1000 dealers in 16 states.

In addition to the management changes, GM CEO Fritz Henderson also said that he had met with Tengzhong officials recently and that he “feels good” about the current progression to sell the HUMMER brand.
