Earlier this week was the first time we’ve heard official talk about vehicles as far out as the H5, and how that vehicle along with the H4 based on the HX concept may eventually replace the H2 and H3. However, that doesn’t mean the latter vehicles will be going anywhere anytime soon.
Under the terms of the definitive agreement between General Motors and Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery, GM will supply the HUMMER H2, H3, and H3T through 2011, with an optional one year extension available for production through 2012.
A misleading article is currently running on Canada.com, sub-headlined “GM to stop building H2, H3 in 2010,” which is false.
“These products are extremely important to the HUMMER portfolio and will remain a cornerstone of the brand,” a HUMMER spokesperson told us this morning.
Following the current contract terms, HUMMER could extend their contract with GM, or more likely, start their own production operations. It’s possible HUMMER could purchase the Shreveport plant from GM, since it’s already scheduled to be shut down around the same time as the HUMMER contract runs out.
H4 (HX) and H5 “……may eventually replace the H2 and H3.”

😀
I forsee purchasing the LA plant as a good possibility. I mean, it’s already built and has experienced workers. Why not?
Continuing to contract with the Mishawaka AM General plant may be a likely scenerio. Shreveport already announced plant closure. Heavier H2 running there would take major modification to line. Lighter H3’s would fit in Mishawaka plant. Hummer production volumes would not justify larger Shreveport plant.
Hummer is one of the most admired vehicle out there for it’s muscular
looks, power capability and out door performance.I don’t think it should
be out of production as of 2012.My intention is to buy one in 2012.
Please consider and keep making the H3x good looking vehicle!!!!!!!
Thank you.
