As of late, the MINI nameplate may not be synonymous with off-road capability, but for nearly 30 years the diminutive brand produced a vehicle called the Moke – an apparent offspring between a Mini and a Jeep Wrangler. Now it looks like the company is ready to revive the vehicle, and introduce a new Moke concept at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.
The Moke was originally produced between 1964 and 1994, but saw limited success as an off-roader due to its low ground clearance and small tires.
According to MotoringFile, “The Moke will have a more rugged off-road-like appearance and will feature MINI’s upcoming ALL4 AWD system that will be optional on the R60 Countryman. The concept, if well received, could go into production as soon as 2012/2013 with the drivetrain and most of the interior being carried over from the R60.”
BimmerFile also weighed in on the concept, saying it closely resembled the Jeep Wrangler.

Ahh, gotcha. That was the one I was familiar with. Well, I’m equally interested to see how a “true Mini SUV” will turn out!
