Before there were H1s, H2s, and H3s there were just HUMMERs. And if you wanted one, you probably looked up Lynch HUMMER in Chesterfield, MO. Now, the store that sold more civilian HUMMER and H1 models than anyone in the nation has put its four year old facility up for sale. It can be yours for a cool $6.9 million.
In 1994, Lynch was awarded the HUMMER franchise and was the first dealer in the United States to exclusively sell HUMMERs. As their volume grew with the addition of H2 and H3 models, Lynch constructed a 34,000-square-foot dealership on a 7.3-acre site. “When I was building, we were selling more than 70 Hummers a month,” Jim Lynch Jr. told the St. Louis Business Journal. “Now we are selling 10 a month, if we are lucky.”
When the dealership was built, GM had high expectations for the HUMMER brand, and also high expectations for its dealers. This meant high construction costs for required elements like a Quonset-hut-style roof and off-road demonstration area. For Lynch, that cost was $7.5 million. High expense coupled with the sales decline has forced Lynch to move his HUMMER operation to a more affordable location.
The HUMMER faithful needn’t worry, though. With Lynch’s reputation in the HUMMER community, a huge selection of pre-owned HUMMER H1s, we fully expect the perennial dealer to be around for years to come.
any news of where they’re moving to?
